On September 16, 2022, Senate Bill (SB) 379 was approved by California Governor Gavin Newsom to establish instantaneous plan review practices and create consistent permitting processes at cities and counties for automated permitting of residential solar and energy storage systems.

The City of Rohnert Park is proud to announce that it has partnered with Symbium to establish a new two step process to provide automated permitting platform that complies with requirements of SB 379. Starting October 1, 2024, The City of Rohnert Park will offer automated permits for residential rooftop solar energy systems, including those with energy storage systems (ESS). Automated solar permits are only available for rooftop systems located on single-family homes and duplexes. Other types of solar projects must submit for an Electrical permit through the City's eTRAKiT system.

Before you begin construction of a rooftop residential solar energy system, you must obtain a building permit by completing both steps below. The video at the bottom of this page will walk you through both steps.

Step 1: Apply with Symbium for a compliance check
If you have any issues with the Symbium system, don't hesitate to contact them directly at: [email protected]

Step 2
once you have gotten an approval number from Symbium, return to eTRAKiT and apply for the City building permit.
You will be asked to attach the following:
     • Symbium Approval Document
     • Symbium Inspection Checklist
     • Site Plan
     • Electrical Line Diagram
     • Equipment Specification Sheets and Installation Manuals

After your permit fees are paid on eTRAKiT the permit will be active.
