Safe Return - Cognitive Impairment Program

SAFE RETURN Program – Helping Locate Missing Loved Ones

Individuals with cognitive impairments—such as those with Alzheimer’s, developmental disabilities, or memory loss due to injury or medication—may:

  • Wander away from home or a care facility, becoming lost or disoriented.
  • Struggle to seek help in returning safely.
  • Experience fear, frustration, or embarrassment.
  • Face life-threatening situations due to their condition.

By enrolling, families can have peace of mind knowing that law enforcement has essential information to assist in bringing their loved ones home safely.

How SAFE RETURN Works

  • The SAFE RETURN program, endorsed by the Alzheimer’s Association, provides law enforcement with vital information to help identify and assist missing individuals.
  • The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety offers local residents the opportunity to register their loved ones in the program.
  • The program maintains a HIPAA-compliant file with key information and a photograph of each participant.

Who is Eligible and Can Register

  • Participants must be Rohnert Park residents.
  • Open to individuals with Alzheimer’s, intellectual disabilities, memory loss, or cognitive impairments due to medication.
  • Identification bracelets can be purchased through the MedicAlert + Alzheimer’s Association Safe Return program:
