Toxic materials can endanger the health of your family and pets. It is very costly to dispose of them. The best solution is not to buy household hazardous household products. See Safer Home/Safe Alternatives below for some options.
These are some common household toxics and where to find them:
- Garage: antifreeze, motor oil, oil filters, gasoline, waxes and polishes, auto batteries, engine cleaners, brake fluid.
- Workshop: paint (all kinds), paint thinner, wood preservatives, wood finishes, glues and adhesives, solvents, photo chemicals.
- House: ammonia-based cleaners, bleach-based cleaners, oven cleaners, aerosol sprays, polishes, nail polish and remover, medications and syringes.
- Yard: pesticides, fungicides, weed killers, pool chemicals.
The Sonoma County Waste Management Agency sponsors several Household Toxics Roundups a year. Residents of Sonoma County can dispose of their household toxics at any of these roundups. For upcoming Household Toxics Roundups throughout Sonoma County, check the Toxic Roundup schedule.
