Once a permit is issued, the Building Division requires permit holders to schedule inspections at specific milestones/phases of construction. These inspections allow the Building Division to verify conformance with approved plans, specification, and calculations as well as California Building Standards Codes and other agency requirements. All permitted construction must remain accessible and exposed for inspection purposes until approved by the building inspector. Approval as a result of an inspection shall not be construed to be an approval of a violation of code or other ordinance of this jurisdiction. The permit inspection record card and all approved jobsite copy of plans must remain on the jobsite and readily accessible by the building inspector. The building inspector will sign off each inspection or indicate corrections to be made; a re-inspection is required when corrections are completed.
For a list of inspection types with associated descriptions of when inspections are required please review
Inspection Description guide on the Building Divisions “Guides and Guidelines” webpage. Please contact the Building Division with any inspection related questions.
Inspections are offered Monday through Friday 8:30AM to 12:00PM & 1:00PM TO 3:00PM. Inspection times are AM/PM only. For example, if your appointment time says "8:00AM," your appointment is between 8:00AM - 12:00PM. If your appointment says "1:00PM," your appointment is between 1:00PM TO 3:00PM.
Before scheduling your inspection, make sure the area will be accessible and the work is complete for the inspection you are requesting. When you're scheduling, you will need to provide:
- Permit number
- Project address
- Type of inspection you need
If you need multiple inspections, you will need to schedule each one separately. We will do our best to inspect them at the same time, but we may need to split them up based on availability.
How to Schedule an inspection (Video instructions available at the bottom of this page as well)
1. Login and start your request.
- Visit the City of Rohnert Park eTRAKiT website and login to your account. If you don't have an account, visit the Create an account tab to learn how to set one up.
- Select Schedule in the menu under Inspections.
2. Find your project and start your request.
- Under My Open Permit Applications, select "Request" for the project you need an inspection for. If you don't see this option in the Inspections column that probably means your permit is not yet approved.
- Note: If you do not see the permit you are looking for under "My Open Permit Applications", click "link to Permits" and input the permit number of the permit you want to schedule an inspection and click "Link" to make it appear on your dashboard of Open Permits. Now you should be able to select "Request".
3. Correct any contact information if needed and add any remarks/notes.
4. Select the inspection type, date and time.
5. Submit your request.
- Select "Add Inspection". If you need more than 1 inspection, repeat the same process and select Add Inspection again.
- Select "Submit" once you are ready to make your request.
- Accept the disclaimer and you are done. The inspection should now show on your dashboard and you should receive a confirmation email.
How to cancel an inspection
1. Login and start your request.
- Visit the City of Rohnert Park eTRAKiT website and login to your account.
- Select Cancel in the menu under Inspections.
2. Find your project and your scheduled appointment date.
- Under My Active Permits, locate the appointment you'd like to cancel.
3. Cancel your appointment.
- Click the red X icon next to your scheduled appointment.
- A confirmation dialogue box will appear.
- Confirm by clicking OK, or terminate this step by clicking Cancel.
- You are now done with the cancellation process.
On the day of your inspection, make sure that the inspection card and approved plans are available at your project site, and that the work for which you called an inspection has been completed. There is no penalty for cancelling and rescheduling an inspection, provided it is cancelled a day before the scheduled inspection. A reinspection fee may be assessed for not being ready for the inspection when the city inspector arrives, if nobody is on-site, or if the documents noted above are not readily available.
The cut-off time for scheduling inspections is 3PM each day. Requests made after 3PM will be processed the next business day. When scheduling inspections, it is required to request either an AM or a PM time slot. Exact times will not be offered. Inspectors will no longer contact those who have requested an inspection to allow them to leave the office sooner in order to accommodate greater numbers of inspections. Instead, their order of inspections will be posted each inspection day.
