Susan Hollingsworth Adams was elected to the Rohnert Park City Council in November 2018. She began her service as mayor in December 2023, sixty-two years after she and her family moved to the “Friendly City.”
Mayor Adams learned about serving others from her parents, Art and Sandy Hollingsworth. Susan noted, “Some of the best meals prepared in our home while I was growing up were delivered to those who were sick or otherwise afflicted.” While her mother modeled compassionate service, Susan’s father served the community as president of the Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Planning Commission, and long-time City Council member, including a few years as mayor.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Brigham Young University, Susan served as a proselyting and service missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Tokyo, Japan, and Los Angeles, California.
She began her career in the insurance industry in the late 80s, first as a sales agent and then as an assistant manager for the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies. Susan and her father opened their wholesale insurance agency in Rohnert Park in 1997.
Susan and her husband, Sean Adams, are the parents of three boys, ages 23, 20, and 19. When the first of her three sons was in Kindergarten, Susan did what every mother does: she joined the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), began serving on committees, and chaperoned field trips through her last son’s high school graduation.
In addition, she co-chaired the Committee to Protect Cotati Rohnert Park Schools, and, working with several talented women and men over 35 years, Susan helped raise over $285 million in parcel tax and bond funds for the school district.
Susan served on the Rohnert Park Planning Commission for 14 years before being elected to the city council.
The Sonoma County Mayors and Councilmembers Association appointed Susan to represent their interests on the Association of Bay Area Governments as a member of the Executive Board. She is a Rohnert Park Chamber of Commerce member and owner of Hollingsworth Insurance Services, LLC.
Susan enjoys spending time with her family, raising her dachshund puppy, current events, and good movies.
